President-Elect/Education Committee Report - Eric Christensen:
- The meeting to prepare the 2009 Strategic Plan has been set for December 4th, 2008.
- The Purpose of the Strat Plan is to define opportunities for members in 2009. Eric has contacted all current Committee Chairs, requesting direction for 2009. There is no plan to change the Chairpersons for 2009.
- Eric hopes to have 2009 meeting dates and locations determined soon. If you are interested in hosting a meeting, please contact Eric.
- A new CEN Review Manual is in the works. The hope is to have it published in the Spring of 2009.
- Eric was unsure if there would be an increase in the exam fee.
- CATN: Mike Vislosky and Judy Mackey have been working to Eric to schedule a course. The tentative date for a CATN course in Colorado is May 7 and 8, 2009. The course is limited to 24 participants. There is much work to be done to bring this to fruition. If you would like to assist, contact Eric.
- Wilderness Medicine Conference- Jimmy Taylor will work with Eric to organize an event for 2009. Dates and Locations will be posted on the website.
- ENA Colorado continues to work with the SEMTAC to encourage having ENPC course completion part of the minimum requirement for RNs working in Colorado trauma centers. Much like TNCC is now a requirement. If you are interested in working on this process contact Seleem Choudhury.
- If you are interested in assisting with any educational offerings, please contact Eric Christensen
Presidents Report - Don Walker:
- Don has been working on validating CENA emails to aide in communications. He has verified 650 of the 720 current members. Don announced this is the last meeting of 2008. The 2009 ENA Leadership Conference will be held in Reno, Nevada. If you are interested in a member scholarship, refer to the Strategic Plan for the process. National ENA is hosting State Leaders Orientation in Chicago this December. National sends funds to pay for the President and the President Elect to attend the offering. States have the option to send an additional Board member at the states expense.
- ENPC and TNCC courses continue to be the largest revenue generator for ENA Colorado State Council.
Secretary/Treasurer Report - Sharon Sperry:
- The Treasurer’s report was distributed for review. There were no questions or points of clarification.
- The report is not published on the website, but members were encouraged to contact Sharon via email for a copy of the report.

ENCARE: Vicky Cassabaum was on a National Conference call and unable to attend. Please look at the ENCARE link on our website. Members spoke to a couple items: The first few minutes of the SBIRT video was viewed. This is available to members on the National ENA website. M Goldstein mentioned that the SBIRT process will become a requirement for ED’s seeking Trauma Designation status.
Gov’t Affairs: Seleem Choudhury: not present, teaching an TNCC course. Seleem will serve as President Elect in 2009. He will post Govt Affairs information on our website.
Membership: Kristin Madsen reports: The telephone conferences for ED Liaisons have gone very well. A lot of beneficial information has been shared between the Liaisons. Don committed to send the updated email list to Kristin.
Kristin discussed the ED Liaison program- there are opportunities for more Liaisons in Colorado, please look at the Membership link on our website for a list of current liaisons.
Fundraising was a topic of discussion during a recent conference call ; some of the ideas include: looking in to the cost of having clothing made with our logo or possibly License Plates or License Plate frames. The plan would be to share the profits with our organization. The Liaison’s will continue to discuss these options.
OLD BUSINESS
State Election Results were announced. The 2009 Officers are: President Eric Christensen, President Elect Seleem Choudhury, Secretary Kathy Miley, Treasurer Halle Friedman, Treasurer Elect Kristin Madsen.
General Assembly Report: 18 delegates represented ENA Colorado State Council. Don reports -The general feedback from the assembly was “less business, more nursing topics”. The Scientific Assembly was well attended, the general feedback for this was favorable. Members can order audio tapes from the National website. There are also encore presentations available on the National website.
Spring Scholarships:
Leadership Conference Scholarships are also defined on the website. Reno is the location and the dates are March 4-8.
Fundraising:
The Liaisons are working on some suggestions. Discussion about the need to have a sub-committee to the State Treasurer to work on fund raising ideas. Contact Halle Friedman if you are interest in working on this committee.
A few suggestions: More CEN Review Courses. Statistics indicate better patient outcomes in ED’s with 100% CEN RN’s in the ED. St. Anthony Central is pursuing Magnet status: part of this process includes requiring ED RN’s to obtain the CEN certification.
Roundtable discussion:
There continues to be interest from the membership to address violence in the workplace. It is not a felony to assault a healthcare worker. Contact Seleem if you would like to work on changing this legislature.
It was suggested that the ED Liaisons for ENA Colorado post information from the meetings in their respective departments.
Suggestion to request your employers to add a link to ENA Colorado State Councils website on the work stations PC’s in the department.
There was a drawing held, all those physically present and present via conference call were entered.
Next meeting; TBD
Meeting adjourned at 1400
A tour of Medical Center of the Rockies was offered to the participants.
