Participated in the Quarterly National ENA State Trauma/Pediatric Chair teleconference on August 18th, 2008.
Topics included:

1.ANCC Accreditation
On July 1st, 2008, ENA was notified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation that our application was approved and ENA is now accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education, thus ensuring that our contact hours are recognized in all 50 states.  Through this accreditation, some new requirements and terminology have been introduced.

The term “continuing education contact hours (CECH)” will no longer be used; instead “contact hours” will be used to describe continuing education nursing credits. Due to this recent change, the new Certificates must be used for providing Contact Hours to attendees.

Also, effective July 1st, 2008, all ENA provided programs must have the following statement stand-alone on all marketing tools / flyers / certificates:

The Emergency Nurses Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

2.Update from CATN-II Course Administration Faculty
Only minor changes were made to CATN-II administrative procedures after a recent CATN-II Course Director survey was completed.

3.Clarification Regarding State Faculty
This decision is left up to the individual state trauma committee – such as who monitors course director candidates (State Chair or designee).  National suggested posting a list on each state’s website that lists who can monitor:
New Instructors
Course Directors
State Faculty

Problems have arisen when inter-state monitoring issues present themselves.  Teleconference participants also voiced growing concern about “renegade” instructors who are holding courses without the approval of ENA or state committees.  National is monitoring this.

4.Course Assessments
Each state has received $1,000 in funds as of July 1st 2008.  ENA will decide in late September if another $1,000 can be provided to each state for further educational activities.

5.The ENPC DVD is available to demo provider and instructor courses.

Participated in the Quarterly National ENA State Trauma/Pediatric Chair teleconference on May 12th, 2008.  Topics included:

1.Update on TNCC Rollout Process:
More than 660 Rollout courses held to date.  National ENA will send a final report to chair persons on the Rollout process by July 1st, 2008. National ENA is still having problems with their data base conversion.

Several instructors voiced concerns over the degree of difficulty of the new TNCC written exams.  Some felt that Test A was more difficult than Test B.  National ENA assured participants that both tests had been proven to be reliable and valid based on psychometric testing conducted during the Summer 2007 Rollout Sessions held in Chicago.

2.Course Assessments:
Financial statements per state will be available from National ENA after July 1st, 2008.  It is anticipated that TNCC course grants of $1,000 to $2,000/year will be available for all states.  Outstanding course balances will be communicated to state chairs from National ENA.

3.Clarification Regarding Auditors in a Course:
Non-RN auditors are eligible for CECH only.  They may participate in the skills teaching stations, but may not participate in the skills testing stations.  They must be included on the course Summary Performance Report, and the indirect fee must be paid for each auditor.  They also must have their own textbook to participate in the course.  Course texts are not to be shared or libraried.  The American Nurses Credentialing Center will audit attendance lists, and if an auditor is not on the attendance list, CECH’s will be invalid.

4.ENPC Reverification Course:
Provider cards must not expire prior to attending a reverification course.  A new CD-ROM will be available for this course.  Providers with expired cards are encouraged not to challenge this course.

5.New Instructor Cards:
Should be mailed after July 1st, 2008.  For non-ENA members, the instructor number will be their old instructor number and the last four digits of their SSN.  For ENA members, the instructor number will be the same as their ENA member number. (Refer to CourseBytes online for further information)
