Bylaw Amendment Proposal 08-02
Article X—Committees:
The 2008 Nominations Committee offers this bylaw amendment proposal to support a more concise and finite interpretation of the current ENA bylaws as they relate to the composition, terms and election of the Nominations Committee. Further, it is the duty of the Nominations Committee to solicit, review and ratify a slate of qualified national candidates to the membership. The Nominations Committee is a nationally elected position that was not reflected in this article, and offers that addition. This proposal also defines when a past board member may seek office in the Nominations Committee, who may seek office, as well as clarification of the terms of the committee members.

Bylaw Amendment Proposal 08-07
Article VII—Board of Directors –
Term Limits: This proposed bylaw amendment seeks to define term limitations of the officers and directors of the board. The Emergency Nurses Association draws its governing body from across its 34,000 members, many of whom are active at the local, state and national levels. Eligibility for a position on the national board of directors is open to current active ENA members with minimal stipulations. One of the goals of the 2008 ENA Strategic Plan is to grow the next generation of leaders. Specific, identified initiatives to support the professional growth and leadership development of state council leaders are identified in this document. The opportunity to ascend to a national board position is a natural outcome of developing strong, vibrant state councils. It is imperative that ENA provides the opportunity to a new generation to lead the association at the national level.

Bylaw Amendment Proposal 08-06
Article VII—Board of Directors –
Term of Office: The proposed change in this bylaw would allow for those candidates currently rotating off the board to run for the offices of president-elect and secretary/treasurer, thus enlarging the list of eligible potential candidates. It takes into consideration the need of the eligible candidates to be familiar with the procedures the board must follow by limiting the candidates’ eligibility to the last three years, thus ensuring that candidates are familiar with the most current operations of the board while allowing a more diverse slate of qualified persons to be selected for these positions.
